The Volvo Ocean Race is a joint project organized by the SSA together with Swedish Scouts during the stopover in Singapore. This is the first time in 34 years’ history of Volvo Ocean Race for Singapore – the only South East Asian Country chosen to host and take part in the 4th leg of the race. TheSingapore Scout Movement is the official NGO in the 2008-2009 Volvo Ocean Race.
Envisioned with the theme "Race for the Environment", SSA hopes to nurture its members to play their part towards preservation and protection of the world environment through a de dedicated Scout Day 209. This event will provide an excellent forum to engage youths in taking positive action to protect the environment in their daily activities.
The programme serves to reinforce this obective through encompassing activities that revolves around "Awareness, Acceptance & Action" for marine conservation. Apart from activities organized by the Volvo Ocean Race Village, Scout Day will feature the following fun-filled activities yet purposeful and engaging programmes:-
–Marlinspkie seamanship workshops
-Wide array of conservation theme game booths;
–Exciting nautical launch ceremony;
–Questions and Answers with Volvo Sailors
–NGOs education booths

Volvo Ocean Race [Fri, 16th Jan] – Sec 2 & 3 only
Venue: OneDegree Marina Club @ Sentosa Cove
Duration: 1000hrs – 1700hrs (scouts to assemble outside Scouts Den by 0930hrs)
Attire: Full Uniform (bring extra scout t-shirt)
Duty Scouter: SL Hamida
– Consent forms are to be collected from Ms Hamida’s pigeon hole. Those without signed consent forms on friday will not be allowed to attend the event.
– Scouts will be released by 0900hrs for recess and to get ready for the event. Please change to your full-uniform during this time.
– This will be a one-way trip so those who are going, please just pack your books for 1-2 periods unless you want to lug a heavy bag around Sentosa.
– In addition, please bring along a water bottle, extra cash for lunch, extra scout t-shirt and a poncho as necessary.
